Internet Evangelism Day
According to the website, Internet Evangelism Day has a two fold purpose:
What do you think of this? Perhaps I’m just being cynical, but it strikes me as just another method of reducing the Gospel to information to be consumed. How likely is it that someone is going to come to Jesus through a website? IED is encouraging those who are participating to implement evangelistic websites and outreach blogs, among other techniques. Shouldn’t we be encouraging people to get out of their house, office, and churches and build relationship?
Thoughts?

It bothers me as well, Jamie. It seems like a marketing technique designed to package and sell the gospel. I see the Way of Jesus as a lifelong journey within a community of faith, not a one-time decision to buy a product. I appreciate the intent but can truth really be expressed through a PowerPoint?
Rachel. My thoughts exactly. I couldn’t have said it better.
Jamie, you are right on w/ this one! Heard a guy speaking a couple weeks ago, his topic was “The Gospel Conspiracy.” No, not a conspiracy theorist, but pointing out that there is a conspiracy against the Gospel and it is this…the Gospel has no power to change your life. Certainly marketing schmaltz like this is part of the conspiracy.
Willie…sounds like an interesting topic. who was the speaker? I really am tired of boiling down the gospel to a simple “nod of ascension”, as though it’s not a daily walk of ups and downs…a lifetime of committment.

While I share your reservations about the idea if an “Internet Evangelism Day” complete with PowerPoint presentations, I wouldn’t knock the idea of Internet evangelism as such. When people want information, one of the resources at least some turn to is the Internet, and so if people are looking for information on the Christian faith, I think iot is quite important that they should be able to find it.
