Forgive me for thinking that a proper doctrine of hell in the age to come…
meant that I can ignore hell in the here and now.
Forgive me for thinking that being the hands and feet of Jesus…
meant staying safe inside the foxhole of church buildings and structures.
Forgive me for being immersed in baptisms, buildings and budgets…
and missing renewal, restoration and reconciliation.
Forgive me for believing that saving people from sin is infinitely more important…
than freeing them from the yoke of injustice, oppression and poverty.
Forgive me for sacrificing grace…
on the altar of piety.
