Yeah… I think Christians need to learn something about offending the people we clam to love. Though 1st Tim 2:12-14 does talk about woman and power (equal to men) with some strength. Maybe the EC should sit down and start hashing out its doctrine?
I think that perhaps we need to rethink not just women and men and the rolls they play, but about how we present Jesus, the Gospel and ourselves to the culture!
Thanks for the comment, Chase.
Yes. But do we conform to the culture or transform it. Sometimes Brian McLaren ticks me off with what he says but when he talks about the fall and how most Christians see it as simply a soul thing which it is not, it is so much more than that I think he is right. We need to evangelize to the culture as well. Mars Hill talks about being counter cultural as a way to show that we are not the same. But how do we do this and not become a Jerry Falwell, seen as a joke more than anything else?
Chase,
Great questions. That’s exactly what I’m trying to hash out. I don’t know which Mars Hill you are talking about, but Rob Bell talks about “beincarnational”. Being Jesus. The best I know to do with that is to study the life of Jesus and do the best to emulate that. I know that Jesus was tender, kind and loving to those “off the path” and the most critical of the religious.
http://www.marshillchurch.org/ is the mars hill I am talking about.
Mark (MH pastor) talks about this question you are asking in this video… well he some what does.

Do you know what a Blog Carnival is? I am trying to find one that focauses on the Emergent Church so I can see what more than just five or six of us are thinking.
I am familiar with Blog Carnival, but do not know of any emergent/emerging church blogs. There really are some great blogs out there, though.

We should make one.
And concerning this post, not just dialog, I just got an email back about women in leadership that I am hoping the sender will let me post. She has some strong and interesting things to say.
Excellent. Let me know, I’d be really interested in reading it.
