From the people I’ve spoken to who were once very committed christians, the reason why they left was because of the actions of the so-called followers. They felt very disillusioned by the hypocritical actions by the leaders of the church as well as the other members.
As for myself, why did I leave after having been a christian for such a long time? Because questioning and critical thinking wasn’t encouraged and I simply couldn’t make like a sheep and follow the shepherd. I had questions and those questions were suppressed by others…
